A TDU, or Transmission and Distribution Utility (also sometimes known as a TDSP), is a company responsible for the physical infrastructure that transmits and distributes electricity to homes and businesses. In Texas, while Retail Electric Providers (REPs) handle the sale of electricity to consumers and manage billing, TDUs take care of the poles, wires, meters, and the actual delivery of electricity. They also handle power outages and electrical infrastructure repairs. Essentially, the TDU ensures that the electricity purchased from your chosen REP reaches your property. The charges from TDUs for maintaining and operating the electrical infrastructure appear on your electricity bills, separate from the energy charges from NextVolt Energy.
